A son is to run the London Marathon in memory of his mum and raise money for The Tulip Suite at Spalding’s Johnson Hospital.
Ian Tomblin is taking on the 26.2 miles close to the tenth anniversary of the death of mum Diane.
And to say thank-you for the care she got at the hospital he’s already had over £1,000 pledged towards the service.
He’ll be following in the footsteps of his dad Pete, who runs the family business Tomblin’s Garage in Pinchbeck and who ran the London Marathon 30 years ago in a brilliant time of 2hrs 40mins.
Ian’s partner Hayley Mival says he’s a little bit older and aiming to complete the October 3 race in under four hours, after not having run since competing for the Gleed School at county level.
Ian, who now lives near Burton Upon Trent, said: “In 2011 my lovely mum died of liver cancer.
“In her final days she was cared for by the brilliant team at the Tulip Suite at Johnson Hospital.
“Ten years on I am running the London Marathon to raise money for them in her memory.
“Anything you can give to support this hospice suite who help families like mine when they need it the most will be really appreciated.”
