Hybrid catch boosts Archie in his Tydd Gote Angling Club triumph

There was a really good turnout for the Sunday Tydd Gote Club match on the North level at Main Road where Archie Greenwood deservedly took the honours with 7lb 4oz of mainly roach and skimmers.

Greenwood has been in the frame most of the season, but this week made the number one position his own with a catch that included a bonus 2lb roach bream hybrid caught on his light pole rig.

Andrew Kilby was second with a tench on the feeder and some roach on seed for 6lb 1oz followed by Paul Spriggs with a small fish net of skimmers, roach and bleak for 5lb 5oz. Pete Emery was just behind in fourth with some quality hemp fish for 4lb 12oz.

Despite the sweltering conditions, everyone caught fish with several other 2lb and 3lb weights.

Result: Wednesday Open (Main Road): 1st Andrew Kilby 9lb 14oz; 2nd Dave Simmonds 6lb 4ozl 3rd Archie Greenwood 6lb.

  • Steve Paramore took the spoils in Holbeach and District Angling Club’s latest match at Sharp’s Bridge (Holland) on Sunday.

The event saw 22 anglers turn up to fish on what promised to be a hot day.

Paramore’s weight of 14lb 10oz, which included a couple of bonus bream, was enough for first place.

Second place went to Andy Goodger (10lb 10oz) with Mat Barker (7lb 5oz) a little way back in third place.

The next meet is at Decoy Bridge Corner on Sunday (7.30am).
