Boss Danny Hussey wants to see Holbeach United rediscover their defensive mettle this weekend.
The Tigers, who haven’t won in four games, have a big home date with table-topping Daventry Town on Saturday (3pm).
Any victory would help out Lincolnshire rivals Deeping Rangers, who are six points behind the long-term leaders in the race for the Future Lions UCL Premier Division title.
Hussey is hoping that his side will rediscover their defensive solidity – they had the best defensive record in the league until recently – against the likely champions, who they will also meet in the League Cup final at Raunds Town’s Kiln Park on the final day of the season.
But he’d also like to do Deeping and their boss Michael Goode a favour.
“They’re obviously a strong side,” said the Tigers boss. “But we’re at home and have to be competitive and strong.
“We’ve conceded a lot of goals lately, which is disappointing considering how tight we had been for the rest of the season.
“We’ll need to get back to that kind of form if we want to have any chance of beating Daventry.
“I’ll have a word with ‘Goodey’ about Daventry, as we’d obviously like to do them a favour if we can.
“Deeping showed what can be done against Daventry in the cup semi-final (won 6-2 before being thrown out for fielding an ineligible player) so we have to try and emulate that performance if we can.”
Holbeach go into the game in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Pinchbeck United and just two clear of Cogenhoe United in sixth.
