Hussey calls on UCL to look after Holbeach United following Oadby blackout

Fuming boss Danny Hussey feels that Holbeach United are the big losers from Saturday’s debacle at Oadby Town.

The Tigers were well on their way to a Uhlsport UCL Premier Division win when the floodlights failed at Freeway Park just after the hour mark, forcing the game to be abandoned.

Hussey now expects his side, who were leading 1-0, to have to visit the Leicestershire in a midweek fixture later in the season, but has called on the league to “look after” Holbeach – given that this isn’t the first time Oadby have fallen foul of the same issue.

“The game was an absolute waste of time for us,” blasted Hussey. “If this was a one-off, I’d not moan.

“But they’ve fallen foul of this basic part of putting on a football match a few times now and this one will end up costing us.

“I hope the league look after us and send us back there on a Saturday. But I expect it’ll be a midweek fixture that won’t be helpful to us.

“It takes us about an hour and a half to get there, so there’s a big financial cost involved. We were also 1-0 up and they hadn’t troubled us. Now we have to start again.”

Hussey and his side must now re-focus on Saturday’s tricky trip to Harborough Town (3pm).

Harborough (ninth) were unfortunate to lose 3-2 at Deeping Rangers last weekend and the Tigers are expecting a tough test – especially with key defender Luke WIlson out.

Hussey added: “I heard that they were on top for large periods against Deeping, who had to change how they played to get the win.

“They are a good side and we’ll have to nulify their strengths and expose their weaknesses.”
