House hit by lightning in Spalding

lightning1No one was hurt after lightning struck a house in Spalding during Thursday’s storm.

Fire crews from Spalding and Bourne were called to Stonegate at about 5.10pm after the house was hit.

Firefighters removed tiles from the roof to check for fire and disconnected the electricity to make the property safe.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended a total of 34 incidents across the county as a result of the storm, with many of the calls relating to flash flood waters in roads, particularly in the Market Deeping and Bourne area.

Residents across the district reported their homes and offices shaking as the storm hit at about 5pm.

On Facebook, one woman reported that the storm had caused two power cuts and said lightning struck the telephone line at a house her son was looking after, blowing up the telephone point, “splattering the internet cable all over the wall” and scorching ceramic floor tiles.
