Horticultural nursery seeks planning consent again

A Moulton Chapel horticulture firm has returned to South Holland District Council, hoping to be granted consent for expansion plans.

Lucksbridge Horticulture wants to build a 36,000sq m glasshouse and install two new biomass boilers at its premises in Broadgate Drove.

The firm said: “Due to an increase in customer demand, as well as the need to become ever more efficient, we would like to renew and expand the site.

“At present the glasshouses, polytunnels and heating systems are in need of replacement for more efficient and up-to-date technology in order for us to remain competitive, efficient and sustainable.”

A recent previous application including a new glasshouse was rejected by the district council’s planning committee, although some members expressed sympathy with the need for the firm to modernise and remain competitive.

However, the proposed structure was said to be too overpowering and like “a wall of glass” to neighbouring residential properties.

Lucksbridge says if its latest plan is approved it would expect to increase full-time staff from the current two to 15-20 and require 60 agency staff at peak times – twice as many as now.
