South Holland District Council has been told to improve its housing services.
The Regulator of Social Housing report from an assessment carried out last month says ‘there are some weaknesses in the landlord delivering the outcomes of the consumer standards and improvement is needed’.
Giving SHDC a C2 grade, it says the district council specifically needs to improve on ‘transparency, influence and accountability standards’.
The regulator report says that the council will have a condition report for all of its homes by November, and said the authority is managing the risks of damp and mould in response to tenants feedback.
It notes action taken with regards to anti-social behaviour but states: “There is scope to strengthen SHDC’s reporting and tracking of case handling through the inclusion of ASB trends and outcomes.”
The report continues: “SHDC has commissioned external support to improve its approach to tenant engagement and scrutiny, and has consulted with tenants on a new strategy.”
A statement from SHDC said it was ‘satisfied’ with the ‘second highest grading’ but ‘recognises there is room for further improvement and is committed to working with the regulator’ to achieve the higher grading’.
It highlights the fact that the authority approved a new strategy on tenant engagement in June 2025 and its new Tenants Forums as recent methods it has looked to improve.
Coun Tracey Carter, Portfolio holder for strategic and operational housing said: “It’s really pleasing to see we are doing a lot of things right in how we deliver services for our tenants.
“However, we have some work to do to improve our service delivery further, particularly in tenant engagement.
“The launch of our Tenant Forum marks the beginning of a new approach, enabling us to work more collaboratively with tenants, review services, and implement changes based on their feedback.
“We look forward to continued dialogue with regulator as we strive towards achieving a C1 grading in the future.”
