Holbeach United’s Boxing Day derby at Wisbech postponed, Tulips lose key duo

The scheduled ChromaSport UCL Premier Division derby between Wisbech Town and Holbeach United at the Fenland Stadium on Boxing Day has been postponed.

Heavy rain on Christmas Eve led to the Fenmen calling a pitch inspection – and with more rain forecast over the following days, it was decided to call the game off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The derby was going to be the first chance Tigers fans would have to see new signing Aaron Eyett in the yellow and black stripes. Winger Eyett joined from Boston Town on Christmas Eve.

Holbeach’s next game is against Yaxley at Carter’s Park on Monday, December 28 (3pm).

Meanwhile, Spalding United were dealt two big blows on Christmas Eve as key duo Jake Newman and Mitch Griffiths left the club.

Striker Newman has agreed a move to Graham Drury’s higher-graded Stamford, while winger Griffiths has moved to Evo-Stik League First Division South rivals Lincoln United.

Griffiths is expected to make his debut on Boxing Day – when the Tulips visit his new side (3pm).
