Holbeach United have snapped up highly-rated Spalding United youngster Jonny Lockie on an initial one-month loan deal.
The speedy teenage striker, who has been used mainly as a substitute by Tulips boss Dave Frecklington in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South this season, will debut for the Tigers at Peterborough Sports tomorrow night (Tuesday, 7.45pm).
Player/boss Tom Roberts feels that the deal is a positive one for his Holbeach side and also reckons both Lockie and Spalding will benefit from him getting some game time in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division.
“I think we need a bit more pace in our side – and Jonny definitely brings that,” said Roberts. “We’ve got an agreement with Spalding for a month.
“Jonny came through the ranks at Holbeach, so it’s a good move for him as he knows the club. It’s a great move for all parties really, he’s not had much game time.
“We’ve got a lot of selection problems at the moment, so he’ll be involved – and that includes the game at Peterborough Sports.”
Lockie made headlines last season when he was handed a trial with eventual Premier League champions Leicester City.
He scored more than 30 goals for Spalding’s under-18 side last season and scored his first goal for the senior side during the 2-1 Lincs Senior Cup semi-final defeat at Stamford back in August.
