Holbeach United fall adrift at bottom as Quorn ease to five-star victory

Quorn 5 Holbeach United 0

Club legends Phil Barnes and Dean Elston were back in the dugout as Holbeach United suffered another damaging defeat on Saturday.

With Gary Frost leaving the club by mutual consent last Tuesday, Barnes and Elston – who themselves stood down as manager and assistant boss before Frost was appointed – took caretaker charge as the Tigers lost 5-0 to Quorn.

The defeat, a 15th from 17 games in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division this season, sees Holbeach fall ten points adrift from safety at the bottom of the standings.

Jordan Clarke netted on 28 minutes to put the Leicestershire-based hosts 1-0 ahead at the break.

It was 2-0 when Charlie Marzano bagged just after the interval, before Ben Gowing (55 and 81) and Brandon Fox (78) scored to pile on the misery for the Tigers.

The loss extends Holbeach’s winless start in the league this season to 17 games, with four goals scored and 53 conceded.

Tigers: Frestle, Chester, Eldridge, Carter, Nuttell, Richardson, Baker, Williams, Wirkowski, Frost, Storey. Subs used: Clark, Compton, Nicholson.

Attendance: 94.
