Holbeach United boast a strong squad for the visit of unpredictable rivals Cogenhoe

Seb Hayes believes that he’s got an embarrassment of riches at his disposal ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Cogenhoe United.

The Tigers chief, who has guided his side to back-to-back wins in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division after ending a run of five losses on the trot, has 17 first team players to pick from for the Carter’s Park clash.

Former Peterborough Northern Star and Huntingdon Town chief Hayes has warned his players that a few of them may find themselves with the Reserves if they don’t impress him in training.

For those that do make the cut, Hayes has warned them that Cogenhoe have the potential to be formidable foes.

That was perfectly highlighted by Saturday’s 2-2 draw at formidable leaders Peterborough Sports, with the Cooks leading 2-0 at one point.

However, Hayes knows that Cogenhoe are also capable of losing to anyone on their day, too.

“I’ve got a very, very strong squad available for Saturday,” boasted the Tigers chief. “As things stand, we’ve got 17 to pick from.

“I don’t like taking squads of more than 14 or 15, so a few will go with the Reserves.

“Dan Dougill, Tommy Treacher and Jake Walton are all back after missing last weekend and Jamie Stevens is fit enough to be considered for selection again.

“It’s all about training and who impresses me, which is exactly the situation you want as a manager.

“It’s never easy against Cogenhoe, they are one of those sides that can beat anyone – but also lose to anyone too.

“They are a funny team and we’ll need to be up for it. Nobody expected them to go and get a draw at Sports, so we’ll need to be on our game.

“I’ve seen them a few times this year and will speak to (Sports boss) Jimmy Dean for his verdict.

“As ever, we need to focus on ourselves and getting things right.”

Meanwhile, Hayes revealed that he’s interested in doing a loan deal for a player from a higher-graded club.

The Tigers chief is pleased with his squad, but insisted that he’ll always look to improve if options become available to him.

Saturday’s opponents Cogenhoe come into the clash in 14th place, some 19 points behind Holbeach in seventh.

The Cooks have lost 11 of their 16 away games in the league so far this season and last won on the road back on January 7 – although that was at rock-bottom Huntingdon Town.
