Holbeach United’s top summer target Lewis Baughan has rejoined the club from Yaxley.
The striker, who was the shining light in an otherwise nightmare season last year as the Tigers were relegated from the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North, agreed to return to Carter’s Park on Monday night.
Joint boss Danny Clifton is over the moon to have signed a player he was desperate to retain at the end of last season and hopes that he’ll take the pressure of leading scorer Cal Davies.
“We had a decision to make after the Swaffham game,” said Clifton. “I felt like we’d drop a lot more points if we didn’t push to get another forward in.
“Lewis has been playing step four football at Yaxley and that’s why he didn’t stay with us. But it’s not quite worked out as he’d hoped, really.
“He wants to enjoy his football again and we’re really happy to offer him that at Holbeach.
“With him and Cal Davies on the pitch at the same time, our goal threat will be vastly improved.
“I think we’ve been over-reliant on Cal and, when he’s not played, we’ve dropped a lot of points.
“Lewis is a great player and I’m really happy to have him back with us, it was no secret that we wanted him over the summer and I’m pleased we’ve got it done.”
Baughan should be in the squad for Saturday’s home clash with Huntingdon Town in Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North.
The Tigers also host Heacham on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
