Holbeach launches ‘Big Things’ TV show bid

A local council wants groups and individuals to tell a TV company why its town is the perfect place for a prominent new piece of art.

Following a recent invitation by broadcaster Banijay UK, Holbeach Parish Council will put forward a bid for the Big Things project – but they need your help.

Banijay UK is looking for local parishes that have a strong community feel, and Holbeach Parish Council believes the town is the community for the show.

Banijay Productions says the winning community will get “a privately funded piece of public art that will celebrate the local people and the heritage of their community, that will become a new local landmark and cultural beacon.”

At the February Holbeach Parish Council meeting, Coun Paul Foyster said of the project: “Competition for such an impactful piece of artwork will be fierce and initial contacts with Banijay indicate that in order to be included it will be necessary to demonstrate a high level of local support.

“We are asking for as many local groups and individuals as possible to directly contact the producers explaining why Holbeach deserves to win a spot on the show and how much they support the idea.”

Coun Isobel Hutchinson said she fully supports the idea, adding: “This project would give the town a real boost and hopefully inspire more people to enjoy all forms of art. There have been lots of art installations all over the town including the Wignals Gate bus shelter and the meridian stones in Carter’s Park.

“Something like the opportunity this TV show offers would really add to that.

“The council is happy to find it a home, we just need that public support.”

Any groups or individuals that would like to get involved in the bid can send comment about why they feel Holbeach is a special place to be and why it deserves to win the artwork to Holbeach Parish Council through its Facebook page or in the offices, or email Banijay directly at [email protected]
