Youngsters could be playing at a new football academy in Holbeach early in the new year.
Construction work at Kings Academy should complete in late January and it could then be just a couple of weeks before the first Holbeach United Youth matches are played there.
Holbeach United Community Sports Academy – as it is formally known – is a project with the support of the Football Foundation and a £340,000 Sport England grant. It is being built by Langwith Construction on land in Pennyhill left to the community by late town businessman John King.
There will be five pitches, four changing rooms, an officials’ room, and community hall and kitchen.
Academy vice-chairman Stuart Clark said: “The building work is on course to complete on January 26 and we’re planning to be down there perhaps mid-February.
“Everything is going to plan and the Football Foundation has visited and is pleased with how things are coming along.”
The aim is to get the community hall and kitchen in use as soon as possible to provide income.
Mr Clark said: “We’re going from a club that has no home to a club that essentially is going to fund itself.”
The academy has just launched its website www.www.holbeachunitedcsa.org.uk and anyone wishing to book facilities should call Stuart on 07831 400052.
