Holbeach Air Cadets collect for community larder

A cadet group in Holbeach has responded to requests for food.

Upon reading a news story that a surge in usage had left the Holbeach Community Larder and Cafe bare (The Voice, 22/03/18), the young members of the 2430 Holbeach Squadron Air Training Corps took up the cause and brought food from home to present to the food bank.

Civilian Instructor Vanessa Simmonds said cadets are no strangers to good causes.

“They regularly work with the community and help out at events such as the Holbeach flower festival and in June they will be assisting with the Holbeach Town and Country Fayre,” she said.

They also take part in fundraising bag-packs and this weekend took part in a 24-hour Le Mans.

The squadron is always open to new members, Vanessa said, and they meet on a Friday evening from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Activities include flying, shooting, camping at RAF bases, playing in the band and sports tournaments.
