HOCKEY: White and Hales goals gun down leaders

Long Sutton 4th 3 Bourne Deeping 5th 2 (replay): It took a great team performance from Sutton to conquer the league leaders.

The opening salvo came from Bourne Deeping who scored first, but Sutton’s youngsters are not short of confidence and Tom Burton, Ed Lanning, Kieran Forrest and Lewis Shooter all defended well.

Ian White found Gary Hales with a raking through ball and he did the rest, with a finishing masterclass.
Kane Portass is revelling in his new midfield role and with him and Will White pushing the side forward, the pressure resulted in penalty corners, the second of which was converted by a bullet from Ian White.

Not long after half-time he repeated the trick with an even fiercer shot.
Sutton’s efforts never flagged and they closed out the victory with some degree of comfort.
