Historical sites open up for Heritage Open Days

In September, South Holland landmarks once again open up as part of Heritage Open Days.

This year, Heritage Open Days will celebrate its 25th anniversary with ten days of free events.

More than 400 events take place across the East Midlands, with a handful falling in South Holland.

These include a ‘Learning Wisdom and Folklore in a Victorian Cemetery’ walk and talk in Holbeach Cemetery on Saturday, September 14 (10am-4pm).

Also in Holbeach, the secret Cold War bunker swings open the hatch again for two days (Friday, September 13 and Saturday 14). Booking is essential, via 01529 461499.

Strawberry Glass – A Heritage Craft takes place at Strawberry Glass at Unique Cottage Studios, Low Fulney, (Friday, September 20), along with the Wooly Tales workshop at the studios – a chance to try the ancient craft of felting (also Friday).

Spalding Gentlemen’s Society welcomes the public into its archives on Sunday, September 22, and Tydd Pumping Station hosts an open day on Saturday, September 14. The day will include a chance to see the pumps in action, as well as guided walks.
