After a break of three years the Siege of Crowland Abbey is back bigger and better with cannon, musket, pike and cavalry to mark the Siege of Crowland Abbey 1643.
The Sealed Knot will be occupying Crowland for the weekend of September 16 and 17 to re-enact this English Civil War event.
In 1643 the population of Crowland supported King Charles 1 Spalding supported Oliver Cromwell.
A letter was sent to Crowland warning them of the error of their ways that so enraged the local population to the point that the Vicar of Spalding, at the time the Revd Ram, was kidnapped and held hostage in Crowland until he was released by Cromwell’s troops.
The weekend will consist of parades, mock battles, a torch lit parade, a living history camp culminating in a firework display on Saturday night.
This is a free event for those under 16 with an adult charge of £5 for the weekend.
Entrance to the event is by wristband available from Crowland Abbey and any profits will go toward the upkeep of the Abbey.
