Hills help ensure that Spalding Golf Club lady captain’s charity lunch is a big hit

A total of close to £700 was raised at Spalding Golf Club’s lady captain’s charity lunch.

The event, sponsored by Hills Department Store, saw the ladies’ section players enjoy a two-course lunch, followed by a short talk by Val James from Macmillan Cancer Support.

This was followed by a fashion show, narrated by Christabel Paul, buyer and head of the fashion department at Hills, who also put together the selection of garments for the volunteer models.

Hills also donated several raffle prizes and this raised an outstanding £430, raising the overall total for the day up to the region of £700.

  • Spalding’s ladies have also been busy raising money for the lady captain’s charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

They recently held a Bridge Drive, which was attended by 13 tables of players.

Afternoon tea – prepared by lady members – was also served and helped the event raise £463.25, which included £186 from the raffle.

  • Ladies’ section result: Yellow Peril (13-hole event) – 1st Barbara Newcombe, Wendy Revill and Maureen Orwell 54 points; 2nd Dianne Rafferty, Olive Gooderson and Rowena Hughes 53pts.
This event also had a raffle that raised £48.
