Hill pulls off county treble as Smith wins for sixth time

It proved to be home rule for Spalding at the Lincolnshire County Indoor Bowls finals.

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted the event and emerged with top honours.
Ruby Hill led the way, with three county titles, while Dominic McVittie won two and Graham Smith, Chelsea Spencer, Jean Patterson and Jack Wells won one each.
In the morning session, Hill won the ladies county singles for the second time with a one-sided 21-1 win against Sandra Tebbs, from Boston.
Smith was crowned Lincolnshire men’s singles champion for a record sixth time, beating Paul Oke, from Sleaford, 21-12.
The afternoon session saw two more wins for Spalding as McVittie retained his county sets singles title and Hill was joined by Spencer to win the ladies county pairs. McVittie beat Lincoln’s Richard Ashton by the narrowest of margins. He was required to draw shot with his last bowl to win the match on the deciding end of the tie break.
Hill and Spencer made life easy for themselves with a 21-6 win against Brenda Rice and Amanda Forty, from Skegness, to win the title for the third time.
The final evening session saw plenty of home support, cheering Hill to her third title of the day with a 21-18 win over club mate Louise Harris in the ladies under 25 singles final.
McVittie was joined by Patterson in the mixed pairs, where they beat Rene Walker and Colin Barks, from Dunholme, 21-6. It was Patterson’s first county title.
The crowd then got behind Wells as he won the Lincolnshire under 18 singles title in confident fashion, chalking up a straight sets win (9-1, 6-2) against Owen Aspinall, of Stamford, to record his first county honour.
