Hayes focuses on eyecare

South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes recently attended a Parliamentary event calling for better care for those with sight loss.

Organised by ‘The Eyes Have It’ campaign, it seeks an urgent call to action for the Government to prevent avoidable sight loss and improve care for those who live with it.
Its partnership of the Macular Society, Fight for Sight, RNIB, the Association of Optometrists, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Roche Products Ltd working to draw attention to the 2.2 million people in the UK living with sight loss and to campaign for better care for those suffering with major eye conditions.
Sir John Hayes said: “It is vital to prioritise long term planning for those suffering with sight loss and other major eye conditions.
“Above all, the government need to develop a new national eye health policy to help tackle the capacity crisis in hospital eye care.
“I also heard how extra ophthalmologist training places are needed, given the prevalence of eye conditions is projected to increase in the coming years.
“I’m proud to support this campaign, and will do what I can by raising the matter in Parliament and will write to United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust to see what more can be done to prevent sight loss and ensure the best support for those who suffer from it in our area.”
