Moulton Harrox missed the chance to regain top spot in the South Lincs Border League Championship after losing their match in hand on leaders Newborough.
Chasing Ketton Sports’ 214/8, Moulton were all out 33 runs short.
The visitors made rapid progress to 161/3 before Moulton halted their charge by restricting them to only 53 more for the loss of five wickets.
Captain Matt Rose was the pick of the bowlers with 3-33 from his nine overs.
Jamie Juckes (50) and Ruari Drumm (20) got Moulton’s reply off to a solid start with 65 for the first wicket.
Flynn McMillan (24) and Matt Barnett (19) also scored well but the tail failed to wag and Moulton slumped from 127/3 to 181 all out.
Moulton seconds were well beaten at Heckington in Division Two. The hosts rattled up 261/5 with Moulton shot out for just 91.
Things had looked good for captain Rob Callaby, despite losing the toss, as the home side stuttered to 97/5 with Shanaka Sumanapala (2-28) and Cameron Fox (2-58) both impressing with the ball.
Unfortunately, the sixth-wicket pairing of Rich Wells (121no) and Mike Priestley (64no) proved stubborn and added another 164 runs.
Moulton’s innings saw only two partnerships rack up runs but the second-wicket stand between Clive Bayston (18) and Zak Maddison (13) and a ninth-wicket fightback from Callaby (25no) and Sumanapala (15) was nowhere near enough with no other batter reaching double figures.
In contrast to a day earlier, Moulton’s Sunday side were in scintillating form in Division Four East of the Rutland League, beating Market Overton by 154 runs.
After losing Oliver Sneath early, Ruari Drumm (63) and Charlie Poulter (55) added 117 for the second wicket, setting the stage for Flynn McMillan to take the spotlight.
He hit two sixes and 17 fours in a 55-ball century before retiring after sharing a 107-run partnership with Liam Barwick (13no), helping his team to 257/4 from their 40 overs.
Only opener Ed Milner (31) passed 20 as the visitors were bowled out for 103 with three wickets each for Liam Barwick (3-8), Zak Maddison (3-8) and Sonal Martin (3-20).
