Harold gets all tanked-up

A 65 ton Chieftain Tank has been loaned to veterans fundraiser Harold Payne to help raise money for a memorial garden.

Harold, a long-time supporter of armed service veterans, , is building the memorial at the Fleet and A17 junction and has commissioned unique gates and planted 1,000 roses as part of the project.

Now the Muckleburgh Collection in Norfolk has loaned Harold, of the Anglia Motel, Fleet Hargate, the iconic tank from the 1960s and 70s to help with his fundraising.

People wishing to take a closer look and a photograph of it are welcome, but donations are requested to help fund the garden in memory of service personnel who have died while serving.

Harold is adding the tank to his own collection of military vehicles and it was so heavy that it had to come via Wisbech because its weight on a low loader was too much for the Cross Keys bridge at Sutton Bridge.
