Hard-fought victory seals Pole position for unbeaten Borough

Another top night of action in The Spalding and South Holland Voice 6 a-side league saw unbeaten Division One leaders Polishborough secure the title with four games to spare.

Their triumph came later in the night at Surfleet on Monday, with the first Division One game a little more underwhelming as Old Boy Coaches picked up a default 5-0 success in their ‘points match’ against no opponent.

Fortunately, the league are now able to welcome new boys Bowlcut Wanderers, who replace the points match to refill the league.

The first proper game in the top tier saw Brennan’s Sports climb into second with a 5-3 success over Pro Ballers in a close contest.

New signing Marcin Minczynski got the nod for man of the match (MOTM) for Brennans in this one.

The next clash saw Posh Old Boys hampered by an unfortunate facial injury to keeper Simon Black, which handed You’ve Got No Fans the win after a goalless first period. Andrew Baker managed to grab another MOTM prize for himself and helped take his team up to fifth in the table.

Pinchbeck United then eased past Mirror Signal Malouda 2-1 to extend a five point gap over them.

Both sides enjoyed moments of dominance and can both be encouraged by aspects of their play, with Jonny Butler MOTM.

Elsewhere, Tom Cherry picked up the MOTM gong as his Notinmymums Forest side strolled to a 5-2 victory over struggling The Future FC.

Their dominance and lead in the game was never in doubt as they bossed every part of the field.

With Pro Ballers losing, Polishborough knew a win would secure the title for them. The small matter of facing a stubborn Univeg Team was their only obstacle – and one which they just managed to overcome.

They won 1-0, the goal coming with ease at the end of a tika-taka style of play.

Polishborough, who will now aim to complete the campaign unbeaten, did deserve the points, with Univeg keeper Jorge Soares putting in a MOTM display to avoid a rout.

Division Two got under way with Evolution handing Simple FC an advantage in the title race after failing to beat Tekkerslovakia in an exciting and physical 1-1 lockdown. Skipper and keeper Jamie Wroniak was the hero for the Tekkers lads.

Game two saw The TBME’s Jake Farrell shine as he single-handily turned over the Le Saux Solid Crew lads 2-1 in a MOTM show.

Sarah’s Boys then beat BK’s Athletic 1-0 to keep their hopes of promotion alive.

The impressive Ash Graham was MOTM here.

Next up, Dynamo Kiev dispatched Balotellitubbies 5-1. With Macauley Grimwood on form and the Kiev lads expressing themselves, they would have given anyone a good run for their money with a showing like this.

Leaders Simple FC are counting down the matches to promotion following another impressive win, this time a 5-1 success over Mail Carter. They sit five points clear of third-placed Sarah’s Boys and with just eight points left to play for. Pat Issitt was MOTM this time.

The curtain came down on another night of football in Surfleet with Goaldiggers walking past Hardly Athletic 7-0. Tyler Wright was MOTM.

TEAM FOCUS: You’ve Got No Fans (YGNF)

Apart from a trouncing by champions Polishborough, the You’ve Got No Fans lads have been an in-form team in the top tier of the league.

With a solid line-up, full of ability and talent, they are potential title-challengers for the new season, as they look to find consistency and flair throughout the pitch.

From Ollie Coulam in between the sticks to Andrew Baker bagging the glory, they are an outfit that is capable of beating anyone on their day.

Young and hungry they are clearly a team that has the ability to mix things up.

Skipper Coulam said: “We’re pleased with how we’ve improved this season. We are going well in the Thursday league and I think we can easily push that form over to our Monday night team, as it’s the same group of lads.

“We love playing down here as it gives us a completely different challenge to 11 a-side, and it’s really well run.

“We were disappointed with our result against Polishborough but we’ve taken good draws against Brennan’s and Pro Ballers and seem to beat everyone around us in the league.

“If we can find more points against the bigger teams then I think we can challenge and that’s certainly our aim for the next campaign.”
