Happy days at town’s newest primary school

handprint 2Children at Spalding’s newest primary school will forever be part of its future after leaving their handprints in a special area of cement.

Pupils at Wygate Park Academy were all invited to make their mark on the cement laid by Kier Housing Development to mark the opening of the new school.

Academy headteacher Annabel O’Connell said: “You can regularly see the children outside trying to find the one that they created and it is lovely to know that all of our hand prints will forever be a part of Wygate Park Academy.”

Every family was presented with gifts, with parents receiving a memory stick, newsletter, pad, pen and pen pot.

The youngsters were also presented with a bag of goodies from Langwith Construction, the company which built the school on Spalding’s Wygate estate.

The children all received a colouring book, stickers and colouring pencils.

Last week, the children were also joined by family and friends to celebrate harvest festival.

The children performed some of the different songs and dances that they had learnt.

Mrs O’Connell added: “We also shared some special messages of thanks not only to our friends, but also to those who help to provide our food.

“The offerings from parents were outstanding and for this we really are grateful.

“All the proceeds are being donated to Southfields Care Home and we were able to welcome a couple of the residents from there into our school family when they too joined us in our celebration.

“We shall also be taking some of the children to the care home in order to deliver the Harvest gatherings.

“We look forward to working closely with Southfields in the future.”
