Hannah’s superstar mum is this week’s Selfless Superstar

This week’s Selfless Superstar nominee is Lynne Earth, who was put forward by her daughter Hannah.

Hannah said: “My brother has a rare chromosome disorder and Mum has been his primary carer for 25 years.

“She does this 24/7, as he has very high needs, due to having no speech and limited mobility, to name a few.

“She has sacrificed everything to provide for him, as well as myself.

“Throughout the pandemic, his day centre where she would drive every weekday to take him, shut down.

“He would go here and do activities, bake and even have trips out, all with 1-1 support.

“This gave my mum the chance to have a break, do necessary household jobs and also care for my grandparents who are in their 70s and 80s.

“In addition to that, important respite hours we are entitled to were ceased because of the risk of COVID-19. These hours enable Mum to spend time with me when normally she would be too busy caring for my brother.

“With lockdown, my brother and mum were shut inside, not allowed out and this really affected their mental health. Even though we knew this was the safest options for us to keep safe, this did not stop my mum from feeling cooped up and alone.

“I have one grandparent on each side of my family remaining, unfortunately because my mum is unable to work due to being a full-time carer, my father is responsible for providing for the family and works hard to ensure we have financial stability.

“This means my mum has to look after my grandparents in her limited spare time. My grandmother has several health problems, mental and physical, which means if she has any issues mum is always the one who has to help.

“This selflessness is why I think she should be considered for this prize as she has worked tirelessly for over two decades to help everyone around her and puts the needs of others before herself.

“I could go on for hours about everything my mum has done for us – she’s not just a superstar, she’s my mum.”

  • To show appreciation for the exceptional work of our local carers who dedicate their time and energy to providing vital care and support to vulnerable people in our community, we’ve teamed up with Holiday With Us to bring you a fantastic opportunity.

Many carers put their life on hold to care for others and don’t often get the recognition or credit they deserve.

Carers – both paid and unpaid – play an essential role in our community and we believe their selfless work needs to be recognised, particularly after the challenges many of them have faced with the pandemic.
