A 15-year-old girl has been convicted of the murder of Spalding mum and daughter Liz and Katie Edwards.
The jury at Nottingham Crown Court decided that, even though the girl did not carry out the killings, she was just as culpable as a 15-year-old boy who last week admitted to two counts of murder.
The prosecution said the girl was “the driver” of the killings at Liz and Katie’s home in Dawson Avenue in April this year.
The plan was for her to kill Katie while her accomplice murdered Mrs Edwards, but the female defendant decided against carrying out the act herself.
After her arrest, she admitted that she had been “excited” and “looking forward” to killing Mrs Edwards and was relieved that the act was carried out.
Judge Mr Justice Haddon-Cave adjourned sentencing until November 10 for a youth offending report to be prepared on the girl. He expressed his admiration and gratitude for police based in Spalding and Grantham.
He said: “It has been investigated and prepared with excellent skill and clarity.”
The judge also expressed his gratitude for the “quiet dignity” shown by those in the public gallery.
The girl was remanded in to secure accommodation and will be sentenced alongside the boy.
