Green is the Don

Most of the pegs were taken for the latest Tydd Gote AC Sunday club match but it was the two anglers on the end pegs that took the top places.

With the sun out and a moderate breeze it was far from certain the bream would feed but Boston star Don Green showed how it should be done with four big fish and a good skimmer from peg 35 for a winning 16lb 2oz total for a comfortable win.

CHILD’S PLAY: Even a group of kids swimming nearby couldn’t stop Don Green winning Tydd Gote’s latest match.

Don even had to contend with youngsters swimming in the drain not too far from where he was catching fish.

At the opposite end of the match length on peg 15, Paul Bawden fished groundbait and pinkie for an all silver fish net of 6lb 4oz, just edging Paul Spriggs who fished a similar match for 5lb 14oz from peg 33.

Dave Simmonds found a 4lb tench plus some bits on 32 for a 4lb 10oz total and fourth place.

* Results: Wednesday Open: 1. Bob Bates 6lb 1oz 2. Archie Greenwood 5lb 5oz 3. Pete Emery 5lb 1oz
Thursday evening: 1. Sammy McSpadden 6lb 2. Pete Emery 3lb 8oz 3. Andy Lawrence 2lb 12oz.
