Great start for Spalding

Spalding water polo kicked off their 2025 Herts league season with a home match against Hertford.

Spalding put out a team with many fresh faces playing their first competitive game for the club.

The game started slow in the first quarter but it was Hertford who found the net first scoring twice before Phil James pulled one back for Spalding.

In the second quarter Spalding this time scored two goals without reply, both coming from Adam Gibbons.

The third quarter saw three goals scored for each team, with Dan Leigh (1) and Josh Lamb (2) both scoring on their debut.

The final quarter saw Spalding score twice more thanks to Matthew Papworth and Aaron Trevor, which would secure the win for Spalding 8-5 but not before a confrontation saw Trevor and a Hertford player both receiving a red card and being sent out of the game in the final minutes.

Spalding’s next game is away at Bedford (reigning league champions) on May 12.
