Great National Club Knockout progress on from Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s leading teams

Spalding Indoor Bowls has both its men’s and ladies’ teams in the respective quarter-finals of the National Club Knockout competition

In the Yetton, the ladies faced a tough match against local rivals Lincoln – but they controlled the match to win 70-57. They next face York on January 21.

The men faced an equally tough match against Barwell but, despite a close match, they controlled the last few ends to win 75-55 to set up a clash with Cumbria on January 21.

  • Spalding’s Mixed Top Club team were in action against Barwell on Sunday again as they bid to reclaim the national title they won two years ago. Another closely-fought contest saw Barwell take two of the five disciplines but Spalding won the remaining three to book their place in the next round.

Results: Men’s singles 16-12; ladies’ singles 18-8; pairs 12-16; triples 12-23; fours 25-13.

  • Spalding’s ladies found hosts Stamford too hot to handle in their latest county league clash, going down 110-90.

  • Spalding IBC’s over-60s team hosted Louth A in their latest Division One fixture on Thursday.

They started strongly, but Louth quickly pulled back as they got used to the green – and, at the half way stage, the scores were level. From there, Spalding finished strongly, winning on three rinks to secure 14 match points and a ten-shot victory, 105-95.

The best winning rink was skipped by David Lunn ably assisted by Peter Bendell, Jim Hammond and Derek Overton. Captain for the day was David Lunn assisted by Graham Hicks.

  • Spalding IBC’s mixed county league team hosted Louth A on Sunday, with the home side winning three rinks to post a victorious scoreline of 94-80. The best winning rink was Jan Sinclair, Judy Jackson, Anthony Cronin and Maurice Elding.
