Gray denied chance to win Mosconi Cup for Team Europe

Spalding Snooker League player Mark Gray missed out on the chance to clinch Mosconi Cup glory for Team Europe last night.

Gray, and partner Darren Appleton, lost out in a final match thriller to Rodney Mark and Justin Bergman whose victory ensured Team America took proceedings into today’s final day of play.

With the Europeans leading 7-2 going into the final session, they needed to win all four of the evening matches to reach the required 11 points to retain the Mosconi Cup for the sixth time.

Darren Appleton and Niels Feijen won the opening game of the session and then Albin Ouschan secured two points for the Europeans as he won his doubles match with Jayson Shaw and then defeated Skyler Woodward in the singles.

However, Gray and Appleton were denied victory in the final session and Team Europe now need one more win today to retain the trophy.
