Grantham Town won the first ever Drury Memorial Shield after beating hosts Holbeach United 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw at Carter’s Park on Saturday.

Former Spalding United midfielder gave visitors Grantham – who play in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division – the perfect start with an early goal on five minutes.

The Tigers, fresh off the back of last Tuesday’s 5-0 humbling at Gainsborough Trinity, soon came back into it and deservedly levelled through Ash Fuller just before the break. The wing ace lashed home from 20 yards to grab his second pre-season goal.

That man Fuller than rattled the bar from distance, before Jake Gibson (71) notched his first Holbeach goal to put John Chand and Graham Drury’s side on the verge of an impressive scalp.

McGovern, however, had other ideas and finished off a top team move to make it 2-2 five minutes from time.

Grantham then held their nerve to win the ensuing shoot-out 4-2, but the Tigers can be happy with their efforts.

Holbeach host Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Tigers: Lovelace, Allen, Warfield, Pinner, Parker Stevens, Beeson, Duffy (King), Spencer, Fuller, Gibson. Subs: Delahoy, Meade, Dube, King, Roberts, Steadman.
