Grand effort as Spalding RFC’s golf day raises vital funds for new ground

Spalding RFC’s annual golf day at Spalding Golf Club raised close to £2,000 – which will help go towards developing their new ground at Drain Bank North.

The event at the Surfleet course attracted a host of players past and present, with a host of them collecting prizes on the day.

Among them were Spalding’s current player of the year John Barrett and recently retired brothers Tom and Ed Duerden.

They were joined by supporters and friends to make up a total of 68 competitors in the pairs betterball competition.

Ryan Frankish and Alex Anderson were the overall winners, just edging out runners-up Dave Halfteck and Rob Sampson.

TOP DOG: Overall winner Ryan Frankish (right, his partner is missing) with George Sly.

Jackie Bailey-Scott and James Crampton were the mixed pairs winners.

The event was supported by main sponsor Turnbull of Spalding and many other local businesses.

That, together with a popular evening raffle, saw Town raise an impressive amount of money that will prove invaluable.

Other prize winners: Nearest the pin: 9th hole – Dave Halfteck; 16th – Rob Groves; 11th (in two) – Pete Coupland. Presidents Putting competition: Winner – Kathleen Yates.
