Gosberton House celebrating 25th Anniversary

about_goshouseRelaxed, homely and happy are all words you could use to describe the atmosphere at Gosberton House Care Home, where friendship, fun and family are as important as the professional and dedicated care those who use it receive.

The care home, which provides round-the-clock nursing and residential care, is celebrating 25 years this year – but the principles of putting people first are still the same as they have always been.

As well as 46 single rooms for residents, the home also provides day care from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday, giving carers a much-needed break and those in need of care a chance to get out of the house, try new things and make new friends.

Those who take advantage of day care join the home’s residents in a variety of daily activitives, including keep fit, baking, crafts, puzzles and quizzes.

The home can also provide respite care for those who need it in a pre-bookable room, and palliative care.

Janet Eastgate is the home’s general manager and has worked at Gosberton House since it became a care home.

It was formerly used as a special school, which now has its own purpose built premises in the grounds of the Georgian house.

Janet said: “The home was extended in 1999 to provide more bedrooms, but much of the house retains its period features and it is a lovely building, full of character.

“I would describe Gosberton House as a very homely place with a relaxed atmosphere where we all like to have a bit of fun. It’s usually very jolly.”

Ice Bucket Challenge 1 (2)Lately, staff and residents have shown their fun side by taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge craze and making a video of themselves dancing to Pharrell Williams’ hit tune Happy.

Janet added: “We just try to make Gosberton House feel like home.

“We like to have a laugh and treat all our residents as individuals as well as meeting all their care needs.”

The home is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with an event on September 21 from 3pm to 5pm, when all are welcome to come and have a look round and join in the fun, including a performance by the residents’ choir, refreshments, music and entertainment.
