Gold award for Sophia

Spalding young farmer Sophia Tibbs has been awarded gold for her hard work with the local club.
As secretary to Spalding Young Farmers’ Club, Sophia has been involved in every aspect, despite not working in the agricultural industry.
“Her initiative and dedication to her club’s members does not go unnoticed and she is an excellent example of a Young Farmers’ Club leader,” said her citation.
This year’s Young British Farming Awards were hosted at Cannon Hall Farm in Yorkshire earlier this month and Sophia made the trip after being shortlisted for the accolade.
“Winning is just amazing, I love what I do, I love young farmers. I don’t actually work in the industry and I think winning this award just shows you don’t have to be a farmer to be a young farmer,” she said.
She has been secretary to the Spalding club for three years and works as a teaching assistant at St Thomas’s School, Boston.
It’s the 75th anniversary year for the club and it meets on Wednesday evenings, email [email protected] for details.
Sophia was nominated by a friend and the annual awards are organised via the Farmers Guardian publication.
