Holbeach United hot-shot Tom Waumsley has surprisingly crossed the South Holland divide after completing a move to Spalding United.
The former Bourne Town and Deeping Rangers hitman, who was the Tigers’ leading scorer under Glen Maddison last season, agreed terms with Spalding on Wednesday.
Tulips chief Pat Rayment moved to snap-up Waumsley after missing out on Lincoln City forward Jordan Thomas, who has instead opted to relocate to Newcastle.
Rayment said: “Tom is one of a number of local players that I’ve had my eye on for some time now and we’re pleased to add him to our squad.
“He did well for Holbeach last year and will provide us with good competition in attack.
“I’ve always said that I’d like to have a nucleus of local players in the squad if at all possible and he fits the bill.
“We offered a lot of local players the chance to come up with us after winning the UCL last year, but they all declined.
“Tom wants to come here and learn – and you can’t knock that.
“There are quite a few other UCL players that we’ll be keeping tabs on. I certainly won’t close the door on local talent that wants to try and progress with us.”
