Gleed gymnasts set for Stoke finals after regional glory

Pupils from Sir John Gleed School excelled at the recent East Midlands floor and vault competition.

The under-14 mixed team of Britney Mair, Izzy Szymak, Kinzi Stokes, Courtney Walker, Ryan Dacre and Keon Smith stormed to the regional title and now progress to the nationals at Stoke-on-Trent in May.

There was also gold for Stokes in the individual stakes, while Szymak grabbed the silver medal.

Also performing extremely well were the under-14 girls, who placed fourth. They were only beaten by three schools who have competitive gymnasts – some doing 40 hours of training per month.

That team consisted of Tish Bycraft, Samantha Stevens, Anete Murniece, Mai Hallam and Nikola Lipinska.

Meanwhile, the under-19 mixed squad of Emma Goodliffe, Amy Loveridge, Sammie Warren, Luke Waterson, Ivan Freitas and Modestas Kandalovas managed a super second.

That feat was matched by Goodliffe in the individual stakes as she sealed silver.
