Gill and Juckes star in Spalding Town 2nd XI victory

Spalding 2nd captain Matt Gill hit a fine 66 and Jamie Juckes took five wickets in what proved to be a comfortable if low scoring win over Heckington.

A second consecutive win for the 2nds was once again sealed by the bowlers restricting the opposition to a two figure score, Heckington being bowled out for 65 following the dismissal of Skegness 2nd for 91 last week.

This latest victory came after Spalding had recovered from a difficult start to post 140 from their overs.

Their top six mustered just 29 runs between them with Chris Dring (16) providing more than half of those.

Gill was in fine form though with his fine 66 complimented by a 17 from Juckes.

Numbers 10 and 11, Neo Timothy (7 not out) and Sinot Thomas (6) also provided useful runs at the end as Spalding were all out in the 38th over.

Gill’s knock alone would have been enough thanks to a fine bowling and fielding display that brought a run out from Daniel Plant and seven catches.

It was Thomas who got the first wicket of the innings on his way to an excellent 3-31 from eight overs.

Jukes also got in on the act bowling the other opener Liam Probert (11) as wickets began to tumble at regular intervals.

In 11 overs Jukes took 5 for 21 as only two Heckington batsmen reached double figures for their side.

The innings was wrapped up by Neo Timothy who bowled a wicket maiden to close the game out, Gill with the catch from his bowling behind the stumps.

Heckington were all out for 65 in just 24 overs.

The consecutive wins have lifted Spalding 2nd to 30 points clear of the South Lincs and Border Division One bottom two with a game in hand on Timberlands who occupy that spot.

Spalding 2nd host Moulton Harrox at the Memorial Ground this coming Saturday in their next league fixture.
