Gifts stolen in Donington burglary

Christmas presents, cash and a mobile phone were stolen during a burglary in Donington.

The burglary in Cowley Road is believed to have occurred between 10am and 6:15pm on Sunday, December 21.

Community Policing Inspector Jim Tyner said ‘There were two burglaries in Donington in November.  Detectives are pursuing active lines of enquiry but at this time we don’t believe the burglaries are connected’.

Police have also issued advice about comments on social media over the weekend about chalk marks on gate posts in Donington, with many people suggesting the marks are used by burglars or dog-thieves to identify suitable target properties.

Inspector Tyner said there had been no reported dog thefts in the area. He added: ‘This is an urban myth that regularly pops up. Please be careful when reading such info on social media sites as myths and rumours can quickly get out of hand and cause unnecessary fear for vulnerable members of the community’.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary is asked to call Spalding CID on 101, quoting incident 379 of December 21.
