A bus driver from Gedney Hill is in a critical condition in hospital after a fire engine and two buses collided.
The incident occurred on a guided busway near Northstowe, north of Cambridge between 2pm and 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 17).
Cambridgeshire Police say the fire engine was responding to an emergency call when it hit a single decker bus heading towards St Ives.
Another bus travelling in the other direction being driven by a 44-year-old women from Gedney Hill was involved.
She was one of 11 people taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital injuries. Police describe her injuries as ‘serious’ and say she remains in a critical condition.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach East said: “We can confirm that two of our vehicles were involved in an incident at approximately 2.30 on 16 April at Longstanton, crossing the B1050.
“Our first thoughts are for the welfare of those affected by the incident. Safety is our absolute priority, and we will carry out a full investigation into the circumstances as well as assisting police with their inquiries.”
Detective inspector Garry Webb said: “This was a major collision which has seen numerous people left injured.
“I would like to hear from anyone who has yet to speak to officers about the collision.”
