Gallery – Pupils step back to Victorian era

Children in Year Six at Ayscoughfee Hall School were transported back to the year 1899 to celebrate a Victorian Christmas.

During the day the children experienced life in a Victorian schoolroom, being taught by an incredibly strict teacher and learning that children should be seen and not heard.

Other activities that the children took part in included making Victorian style Christmas decorations using natural materials, preparing their own sandwiches, which they ate with fruit and a slice of Victoria sandwich cake for lunch, and learning about some of the dangerous and unpleasant jobs that children of the era would do.

The day was rounded off with a nice, creepy Victorian ghost story.

Headteacher Clare Ogden said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned a lot but all agreed that they were very happy to return to 2020.”
