Spalding lifted the day’s gloom with a solid Men’s East League Division Two North West victory.
The hosts dominated the opening stages but appeared to be out of luck with shots trickling past the post, just requiring a little tap to score.
Spalding finally broke the deadlock with a well-worked short corner. Man of the match Stu Cunnington’s initial attempt on goal was parried for Arron Borst to score at the back post for the only goal of the first half.
A more even second half saw Spalding eventually move up a gear and they went 2-0 up from a short corner that saw Ethan Pearson unleash an unstoppable strike into the bottom corner.
Some neat passing through the middle on the counter attack saw Harry Walsh play a perfect ball across for Will Baker to seal the scoreline.

A scrappy first-half short corner goal was enough to sink Spalding in Division Three North West.
A tight game saw Spalding defend well with neither team able to create any clear chances.
Spalding had their best chance in the closing stages but their short corner was blocked.

Spalding battled hard in Division Four North West but missed out by the odd goal in five.
The visitors made an explosive start with an early goal but Spalding quickly levelled through Brendon Atkin.
There was nothing to choose between the teams as they both created and were denied good chances until a short corner saw Newmarket take the lead.
Dylan Hind responded quickly with a superb individual goal but Newmarket struck again to gain a 3-2 interval lead.
An evenly tied second half brought no further goals, despite Spalding fighting courageously towards the end.
