Fundraiser after home found for mother and son facing homelessness

A woman with a disabled child who ‘lacks danger awareness’ has launched a fundraiser to secure the garden at a property she’s been given to save them from homelessness.

Angela Buonocore and her nine-year-old son Leo were facing being homeless when they left their private accommodation.

But South Holland District Council has stepped in to secure them a bungalow in Spalding.

The property doesn’t have a proper fence to keep Leo in, and Angela says her son has ‘a complete lack of danger awareness’.

He was born three months’ premature and needs round-the-clock care due to having severe autism, sensory processing disorder (SPD), global developmental delay (GDD), ADHD, PICA, hypermobility, low muscle tone and suffers from head and abdominal migraines.

“Leo will never live independently,” Angela said. “Without proper fencing, he cannot safely use his own garden.

“Due to his complete lack of danger awareness, access to the road would be extremely dangerous.”

Angela says she’s already had items such as mini-trampolines stolen from the garden.

She’d also like to improve the parking area as the previous tenant didn’t use it for vehicles and instead grew plants on it.

“I feel very happy and grateful to have received the bungalow,” Angela continued. “I was so stressed as my landlady had served us notice to end our tenancy and Leo and I were going to be homeless.

“I have spent a lot of money to bring the bungalow out of the post war era and into modern 2026 and make it safe and secure.

“I have contacted South Holland District Council’s Children with Disabilities Team who say it is a long wait just to be sent someone to assess the situation so they can write a report to apply for funding.

“I have the gravel, membrane and metal pegs just not the physical ability due to a spine condition to do it myself. Not being able to park or use the garden is a big factor to a good quality of life for him and he is a very outdoors child.”

Angela has started a Go Fund Me page she’s called ‘Emergency work to secure Leo’s new disability bungalow’.
