Frequent offender banned from Spalding shops

A man has been banned from every shop in Spalding, except Boots.

A Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) has been made againt James Caraccio (49) of Roman Bank in Spalding following a number of reports of him stealing from shops and of threatening and abusive behaviour.

South Holland Police appliced for the CBO which was granted by Boston Magistrates Court. Its terms say that must not any retail premises in the town of Spalding with the exception of Boots the Chemist and must “not act in a manner that causes or is likely to cause persons in the County of Lincolnshire to suffer harassment, alarm or distress. That is to say shouting, swearing, throwing things or behaving in an intimidating or aggressive manner.”

Breaching it would see Caraccio face up to five years imprisonment depending on the extent of the breach.

Inspector Gareth Boxall of Spalding Police said:“Our application detailed Mr Caraccio’s behaviour over the last three years which included 18 incidents in Spalding retail premises. In a number of these he was reported to have been threatening or abusive and had repeatedly stole from shops throughout the town. He had been banned from town centre shops under the ShopWatch Scheme but continued to enter and steal from them. We compiled evidence from a number of shop staff who detailed how Mr Caraccio was abusive and threatening to them, often in front of customers.

“This took our officers a considerable amount of time and that as well as addressing Mr Caraccio’s conduct, I hope it sends a clear message to those who continue to offend, that our shops are not fair game.”
