Four test positive for COVID-19 at Bakkavor’s Spalding site

Four people have tested positive for COVID-19 at Bakkavor’s Spalding site.

A spokesman said: “Four Spalding colleagues have recently tested positive for COVID-19. None of these colleagues work in the same area on the site.

“In the event of a possible or positive confirmation, we have an immediate and clear plan to follow which involves stringent sanitisation measures.

“Due to the nature of our business, we already have high standards of hygiene, good manufacturing practice and handwashing in place.

“Since the coronavirus outbreak, these hygiene measures have been further enhanced across our sites as part of our approach to and management of the spread of coronavirus.

“We also have a robust return to work policy in place to ensure those returning to work are fit and well.

“We wish these colleagues a speedy recovery.”

Locally Woodhead Brothers and Dalehead Foods have confirmed cases of their staff contracting the virus leading to concerns from fellow employees.

Just last week The Voice reported that Bakkavor had taken delivery of 350,000 face visors for its UK workforce.

A spokesman said: “In past months, and in line with government advice for our sector, face masks have not been used, but Bakkavor has nonetheless innovated a new face visor for factory staff to give them a greater sense of safety at work.

“As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of fresh prepared food with 25 factories across the country, Bakkavor produces for many of the major supermarkets.

“In these unprecedented times, we are working hard to produce the essential food items that can help feed the nation, maintain the food supply chain and help millions of families around the UK to cope with the current period of self-isolation.”
