Four-some Jake steers Long Sutton 2nd to opening-day win

A four-wicket haul from Jake Burton steered Long Sutton 2nd to success in their first South Lincs and Border League Division One game of the season on Saturday.

Batting first at Paradise Field, Sutton managed just 144-9 from their 45 overs against Boston 2nd, with Mark Woodall (41), Dan Oldfield (20) and James Wright (16) top scoring.

However, that proved more than enough as the home bowlers blew Boston away for a meagre 99.

Burton had them in a spin with fine figures of 4-15, while Rob Simpson (3-36), Wright (2-18) and Barry Stanway (1-13) also got among the wickets to ensure Sutton took 17 points from the contest.
Up in the Premier Division, promoted Spalding 2nd picked up five points as they were beaten by Billingborough 2nd at the Memorial Field.

They collapsed from 94-1 to finish on 153-9 batting first, with Robert Noble (33), Simon Juckes (37) and Matthew Sharpe (24) scoring the lion’s share of the runs.

Steve Norris (2-22) was the pick of the Spalding bowlers in the Boro’ reply, but they got over the line in the 37th over.

Also in the top flight, a century from Sleaford 2nd’s Simon Godby (130) ensured that Moulton Harrox made a losing start.

That ton, plus Jack Wilson’s unbeaten 58, helped Sleaford post a sizeable 272-2 on their own track.

Karl Hibbert made 41 in reply for Moulton, but they were all out for 112 in 33.5 overs and collect just two points from the clash.

A day later, Moulton 2nd were also beaten at Deeping 2nd. Connor Gillett made 118 as the hosts posted 217-7 batting first, despite Ollie Booth taking 3-47. Rob Sexton (43) and Booth (36) starred in Harrox’s reply, but they were all out for 153 and pocket just six points.
