Four-goal Shore inspires Sutton’s surge in form

Ben Shore smashed in four goals as Long Sutton continued their recent good run in Division One with a brilliant 6-3 away success at Cambridge City 3rds on Saturday.

Shore scored his first of the afternoon to get Sutton back onto level terms at 2-2 after Josh Fyson had cancelled out Cambridge’s early opener.

The visitors then made a bright start to the second period with Shore scoring twice more to complete his hat-trick and Will Cook also on target.

Although Cambridge reduced the arrears to 5-3, Shore struck for the fourth time to secure the success for Sutton.

Defensive lapses and wasteful finishing proved costly for Long Sutton 2nds who went down to a 3-1 home reversal against their Bourne Deeping counterparts.

Finding themselves three goals adrift, the hosts did pull a goal back when Nick Ellis converted a short corner.

Sam Gray and Adam Taylor tackled well for the hosts and Dan Oldfield enjoyed a solid game playing in the midfield.

Man of the match was Matt Goodley who produced a quality performance following on from his representative honours in the previous week.

A youthful Long Sutton 3rds suffered their first defeat of the Division 6NW campaign.

They were edged out 2-0 in a close home contest against a strong Leadenham side.
