Former Fleet care home still on the market

A South Holland care home which was run by a charity is still on the market – nearly five months after it closed.

Hovenden House is still owned by the Leonard Cheshire charity and negotiations are under way regarding a potential sale.

The Grade II building at Fleet was closed in August after the charity announced in April that it would no longer be running the facility.

At the time it was offering a range of nursing and residential care to 23 adults and also had a staff of 42.

Rising running costs for the building were at the heart of the closure decision.

“Discussions with a number of potential purchasers are ongoing,” said a charity spokesman.

The building is being marketed with no guide price by agent Sanderson Weatherall.

The freehold of the property is on offer and it’s described as being “suitable for a variety of alternative uses”.

The house comes in a 5.4 acre site and there is also a former coach block which, the agent says, is suitable for conversion.
