Former council worker avoids jail after fraud conviction

A former South Holland District Council worker who admitted spending £8,470 for herself on the authority’s credit cards has been given a suspended jail sentence.

In April Beverley Paskell, 41, of The Chase, Crowland, pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position at Boston Magistrates Court.
She was officially sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on May 29.
Paskell was given an eight month jail term suspended for 18 months and was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
She was also ordered to pay £1,200 compensation and a £156 victim surcharge.
The charges relate to a 22 month period before April 1 2023 when she was employed as a technical operations manager for South Holland District Council.
Solicitors representing Paskell told April’s hearing that she suffered mental health issues after being asked to do four jobs rolled into one following the COVID-19 lockdowns.
