Flower parade ‘will go ahead’

The Spalding Flower Parade will be going ahead in 2025, those behind it have said.

An as yet unannounced venue has been decided, as has the date for next year’s event, following a meeting with South Holland District Council leader Nick Worth last Friday.
A statement by the committee states: “After a positive meeting with the district council, relationships have been renewed and we have their full support on a venue along with road closures.
“It means it fills us with absolute joy and pleasure to announce that the Spalding Flower Parade in 2025 will be going ahead.”
The committee says the new venue, which is necessary due to the planned reconstruction of the Castle Sports Complex, will be announced ‘in the next couple of weeks’.
In the two years since its return, the event has been held on the second Saturday of the month, but it could go back to its traditional home of the early May Bank Holiday.
Firstly though, the organising committee has reiterated its call for volunteers and donations.
“The ever important challenges remain on volunteers and the £80,000 needed, but we’re sure you’ll all be behind us.
“We will be running lots of events and fundraising campaigns across the year.
“We do hope to see you at these events.
“We’ll be holding an open meeting in the coming months for you to explore volunteering with us and to come along and meet the team working so hard to bring you this event. We all very much hope to see you there.”
Responding to a question on social media, committee member and 2024 Flower Queen Becs Roberts stated that around £20,000 could be transferred to run next year’s parade.
A Just Giving page has been set up to raise funds for the event.
